Best Fiji Experience Money Can Buy!

We just returned from a Stay & Sail package with Vacala Bay Resort in September/October, and can honestly say it is the only true way to experience the full range of beauty throughout Fiji. From the luxurious resort and local island excursions, to the beauty underwater in the soft coral capital of the world, capped by a night above deck under more stars than you’ll ever see anywhere else on earth, this is an experience of a lifetime, and one you can only get with Vacala Bay Resort. Taking our experience to another level were our hosts, Paul and Helena. Paul’s knowledge of the island and surrounding waters, and therefore his ability to guide us on any and every adventure, is unmatched. Helena is the perfect compliment, as we have yet to meet, and would bet we won’t ever meet, a soul as kind and hospitable as hers. Nor a chef as miraculous! The food that comes out of her kitchen, either in the resort or on the catamaran, is worth the cost of admission alone. We are already counting down the days until we can come back and relax in Vacala Bay, and explore more of the islands onboard the amazing catamaran! Thank you Paul and Heli!

Wow - Just Wow

Where to begin, In the days after Wintston we found ourselves a little shaken and seeking comfort. My Mum, myself and my two kids (5 and 3) were put in touch with Paul and Heli. Paul picked us up from Bucca Bay for a very pleasant afternoon sail to Tavenui. The Villa looks just like the pictures, and being fully solar we had hot showers, great music, lights and fans, while the rest of the island was without power. We were greeted with open arms by Heli and Pinni, with welcome drinks and fresh warm cupcakes. Everyone at the Villa works very hard to make your stay one of comfort and enjoyment Heli is an incredible chef, the taste and presentation of all the meals blew us away. Using whole, locally sourced ingredients each meal had incredible flavour and left you feeling incredibly satisfied. On day 2, my kids declared Heli's scrambled eggs "the best thing they have ever eaten". It was my daughters 3rd birthday while we were there, and she was treated to an incredible birthday party on the beach completed with a multi teared birthday cake and local kids for an afternoon of eating and playing on the incredible beach just a short walk from the Villa. We couldn't have asked for kinder hosts, they welcomed us into their Villa and left us with memories we will never forget. They went above and beyond welcoming my kids, arranging trips to the waterfall, and waterslide, and touring us around town. They knew just when to make suggestions, and when to leave us to make our own plans. The pool has incredible views and the stars at night is something everyone should experience. The kiddos sobbed most of the flight back to Nadi as they just didn't want to leave. I can't wait to return to spend more time in the water and maybe even learning how to kite surf! Thank you everyone at Vacala Bay Resort for the incredible week and memories that will last a lifetime.

WOW the real Fiji!!
We stayed with Helena and Paul for 8 nights in Taveuni - 4 nights at their Villa (Vacala Bay Resort) and 4 nights on ‘Looping’, their yacht. Its hard to know where to start but here goes....
Villa
The Villa is modern and luxuriously appointed with the most spectacular view over the beautiful azure water of Fiji. We (2 adults and 2 teenage boys) arrived in the morning after a night in Nadi and we were met by Paul at the airport in Taveuni and after several emails between us I felt i already knew Paul and felt like I was meeting a friend. The drive to the villa was only 5 minutes and we were greeted by Helena and her team singing a Fijian welcome.

Once settled, we soon realised that Paul and Helena were really lovely down to earth people who are genuinely happy to welcome you to their home. Their warmth and generosity are evident from the beginning and nothing was too much trouble.

We were really trying to avoid the package “Fiji Resort” style holiday and have a more intimate experience and we absolutely found it. On the beautiful Taveuni and spending time with Paul Helena, Ana and Pini we found a great place to relax, enjoy amazing food and wine.....and squeeze in a little exercise - the hill from the beach to the villa certainly got the heart rate up, and we loved the opportunity to do something after such beautiful food prepared by Helena and her team. Helena spent considerable time and effort to source local fresh food and create gourmet meals from anything she touches!!. Helenas breakfasts had the teenagers mesmerised......
Should probably mention the lovely and gentle Taka - Helena and Paul’s Rhodesian Ridgeback that is such a sook and loves nothing better than to sit on your feet and revelled in the attention.....Also loved the kayaks and the opportunity to explore the bays - if you are going on the boat don’t forget to ask if the kayaks can come too.......

Looping - the boat
After an extra night in the villa due to the weather we were finally on the boat...cruising here we come...the boat was the perfect size for the 4 of us to live in comfort. The sailing was amazing and the weather divine. Even one slightly seasick teenager raved about it! Highlights of the sailing included FANTASTIC snorkelling, incredible corals and fish that rival if not surpass the GBR and pristine water quality. Paul knew all the great spots and took the time to educate us about Fiji and what the various reefs, atolls and islands held.

The isolated beaches and Ana’s ability to climb a remote coconut tree for a green drinking coconut were amazing... as was the fresh skipjack tuna sashimi after catching it fresh from trolling on the boat. AND Paul’s tempura fish - also caught fresh that day from the boat.

What Paul and Ana produced from the tiny galley on the boat was unbelievable and so much better than the other places we have stayed in Fiji (and may other places).

So to sum up... Go Go GO and our tips are:
Take plenty on sunscreen, your appetite and a mind set to relax and enjoy the beautiful location on offer.....

Congratulations Paul and Helena - you have nailed it!!

Amazing accomadation with spectacular views.

Paul & Helena at Vacala Bay resort are wonderful hosts, full of local knowledge that can accommodate wonderful island activities. Food provided was above expectations, a mix of western and local meals, they even catered for my vegetarian/ coeliac Husband & Daughter... Then my very very hungry 17yr old son! Taveuni is a beautiful Island to discover, locals are friendly and accomadating. We Sailed, Kited, Hiked, Slid & loved all those fresh water river swims.

“Breathtaking”

The title really says it all. This stunning resort will take your breath away from the moment you open the front door. With hill top ocean views, a big open yard, unique swimming pool and the contemporary white villa makes it a “must” for your accommodation stay in Fiji.
It’s a privately run resort by the most wonderful couple and friendly staff who made us feel so much at home especially with the stunning meals they prepared every day for us. They went over and above to make us comfortable and get the most out of our trip especially with our day on the Catamaran! Safe to say this is the best place we have ever stayed and it topped off our whole Fiji trip by a long shot.

Thanks Paul & Heli! Hope to stay with you again in the future.
Villa with a view!
Vacala bay is a very special and amazing place. A very contemporary white villa with 2 bedroom, swimming pool and a fantastic open kitchen/living room boasting spectacular sea view. Paul and Heli really make the difference: not only skilled chefs and sailor, they’re the most lovely host I’ve ever found!
Well,we arrived as guests and we left vacala bay as friends.
They also have a nice catamaran to wonder around rainbow reef, meet mantas, fishing....
Vacala bay is the best choice we could make!

Modern villa with Italian hospitality and paradise views

We had a pleasure to spend a week with Paul and his lovely spouse Helen in their modern villa on Taveuni island. Villa is build in elevated position and has complete privacy and fantastic views over the bay and remote islands. It is modern with ground to ceiling windows allowing you to observe the magical stary nights and early morning sunrises directly from your comfortable bed. It has good layout for 2 couples or family to stay with lot of designer touches everywhere around the house - bar and kitchen worktop with crushed pearl shells, infinity and plunge pool, outdoor bathroom with two showers and modern bath, etc. Owners took pride in decorating the house with lot of beautiful local flowers - which are considered weed in Fiji :-). In terms of hospitality Paul and Heli pride themselves and enjoy cooking for the guests and I still remember all the fantastic meals they prepared for us - most memorable was Italian lobster risotto prepared by Paul and selection of 6-7 amazing warm starters that Heli was able to prepare out of nowhere in 40 minutes when we went sailing one day. Place is ideally located to enjoy everything that Taveuni has to offer and it is also conveniently close to the airport (as there are only two prop planes coming to the island every day there is no noise on the island). There is plenty you can do on the island - explore the beautiful walks in Bauma Natinal park where you can go skinny dipping in the waterfall lakes, horseback riding into the Fijian mountains with locals, snorkelling in the marine park where locals do not go fishing anymore and you can see a lot of larger fish as well, close by is also a diving school regularly going to top 10 world class white coral diving spot, manta ray sanctuary is also only a short sail away (on catamaran that Paul owns as well), explore local villages or enjoy cava ceremony with some food cooked in the ground (Polynesian or Fijian style), trek to the top of mountain and get lost in a proper jungle where very very few people go and where you can see rain forest as it is supposed to be, slide down the the 200 meter long natural water slide... and also jump across the timeline so you can have today and yesterday (or tomorrow) in 10 minutes 30 times or more. And I also should not forget the main reason I personally come for - there is a world class shallow water kiting lagood just around the corner. Magical spot that I was able to have just for myself and Paul who is also IKO certified teacher. This is indeed very special and green place and very different from Fiji on Viti Levu - main island. It is set back and green place where you can enjoy true Fiji in comfort of modern hospitality. And yes there is a free WiFi in the villa as well ))).
