Resort's unique Eco concept

Vacala Bay Eco Resort was carefully planned and designed from the ground up to prove that ecological sustainability can be achieved and unique local materials can be used to create a magical sense of place - Taveuni, the Garden Island of Fiji.

Floors are made from the polished river stones that have tumbled down through many waterfalls from Des Voeux peak, one of the highest points on Taveuni, for eons.

Countertops are made from the whitest local beach sand and 5 tons of crushed black pearl shells from the CIVA farms on Taveuni and made to shine like marble.

The Villa’s 21 foot ceilings remove the heated air from above. This same movement replaces the warm air with cool moist air from above our wrap around pool. All rooms have louvered windows and or sliding doors on every exterior wall and large effective ceiling fans. 

The Villa generates all power from a large solar array, which was designed into the structure to be hidden and have the perfect pitch for our 16 degree latitude location to maximize energy harvest throughout the year. 

The pool has it’s own separate dedicated solar system and of course there is a back up generator just in case.

You will quickly find out that Vacala Bay Resort is not a fake Luxury Eco Resort! We try not to rely on fossil fuels to pollute the local environment to meet modern needs. As such there has to be just a slight consideration to power usage. The resort is 100% solar powered. Simply turning off fans and lights when not in use will help cover all your power needs. The payback comes in the knowledge that your entire holiday is powered almost exclusively from the sun. We believe that the trade off is minimal and worldwide acceptance has now made it almost essential to deliver a real eco friendly experience to today’s savvy travelers.

Unique Design & Ambiance...

From a love and passion for contemporary design and respect and admiration for Taveuni's amazing natural environment, this magical place was created to stand out and yet to blend in perfectly to it's surrounds.. 

Your private villa consists of three freestanding buildings positioned to best take advantage of view lines and the prevailing breeze. 13 foot high bi-folding sliding doors open the entire front terraces of each building to the sea. Each building is angled to deliver maximum privacy and to deliver absolutely stunning views of the Somosomo straits and surrounding islands.

Your Villa’s 100,000 Liter infinity pool wraps around the main building and runs between the main building and master bedroom, giving you direct access to a lovely dip from inside both buildings or from their outdoor terraces.  

Buildings are connected by a covered curved walk way and lined by a Taveuni river-stone wall.  

The Overpool entrance leads you to the main building with a generous modern fully equipped kitchen, pantry, fridge and freezer, dishwasher, 5 burner fully gas oven and all modern appliances

The Villa's spacious Kitchen island with bar seating area is the perfect place for your breakfast or to watch and chat with your personal chef while your delicious meals are being prepared.

There are 6 different dining areas throughout your villa and garden. The choice is yours every mealtime. Just let us know your preference!

The Living area features a comfortable sofa and large smart flat TV with entertainment center. We are very proud of our Active LINN HI-FI as it is a marvel of modern acoustic alchemy. You can browse through our enormous high-resolution music library or load your favorite playlist and enjoy. We apologize in advance if you must have one for your home once you leave, but it is after all the Hi-Fi system to the Queen of England! 

If you feel the need to take a refreshing dip while you are relaxing on your sofa - just roll into the pool from the living area door wall. Pool nibs are a perfect place to leave your cocktail while you are having a swim. Your own personal swim up bar is all around you.  

Or maybe your favorite spot will be the rotating snuggle chair. A truly comfortable, relaxing chair which makes you part of all the happenings in your Villa, but your attention will most likely be captured by the amazing views just in front of you! There is no better spot to enjoy moments of tranquility and peace with your loved one while sipping a glass of nice wine.

Your Outdoor entertaining terrace gives you access to the pool or to a relaxing swing in one of the hanging chairs. It also affords a relaxing outdoor dining bar area perfect for sipping your cocktail while watching amazing sunsets or having an early coffee while watching a sun rise.

The Lower outdoor terrace is just a few steps down from the upper terrace. You can lounge in the lower pool which has a body sculpted lounge built into the pool. It's a perfect spot for sun worshipers. The terrace also contains a fire pit and a seating area next to it where we serve pre-dinner hors d'oeuvres in the evening. Because Taveuni has no light pollution with no public power, a plethora of stars start to come out during cocktail hour and if you would like to have a closer look, the Villa telescope is ready for your use.

The Villa's Master bedroom features a walk in wardrobe with safe, indoor and outdoor bathroom with amazing honeymoon double rain showers and a romantic outdoor bathtub. You can bathe under the stars while admiring the wonderful sea views and listening to the waves breaking in Vacala Bay. 13 foot high sliding doors offer fabulous views of ocean and sky from your bed, or on cloudy evenings you can enjoy the fiber optic Milky Way built into the ceiling! Your terrace offers access to the garden and the pool or you can just slide in directly from your bedroom doorwall and have a refreshing morning dip! You will love your master suites hanging chair for a moment of peace and meditation. Though they are generally not considered to be eco friendly we do have the worlds most efficient Air conditioning units in the bedrooms for those very rare occasions during the peak of our summer when guests may feel they will be more comfortable sleeping with A/C than just using our large ceiling fans .

The 2nd bedroom has the same floor plan as the Master with a spacious walk in wardrobe, indoor bathroom and single outdoor shower. It can accommodate a couple or up to 3 children. The outdoor terrace offers amazing views and it has a 16 foot high cantilevered balcony with wrap around black pearl shell bar top...

Breathtaking location

Vacala Bay is the most beautiful bay on Taveuni with the island's most stunning white sand beach. Views from the villa are simply incredible. Our beach is also known as Prince Charles Beach because when the Royal family visited Fiji on their yacht, Prince Charles swam ashore into our bay as he thought it was the most beautiful bay on the island and we agree wholeheartedly! Your Villa sprawls across the top of a bluff overlooking all of Vacala Bay with spectacular views of the surrounding islands and the Somomomo Straits. The Villa is situated in it's own private garden inside our 12 acre resort complex.
